2D Bar Codes Automate Event Photo Shoots

2D Bar CodePhotographers who cover events such as road races, or sports teams, or school photography, are faced with a challenge. How to present pictures of each participant for purchase without requiring each subject to browse through hundreds or thousands of pictures.  A new professional photography service, snapizzi, uses DataMatrix 2D bar codes to automate the proofing and sale of event photos.

Photographers use the snapizzi barcodes to capture photos at school, events and sports. Once uploaded, the photos are automatically grouped by individual into online, private galleries, ready for sale. The bar codes, called IZ tags, can be applied to just about anything – runner’s bibs, athlete’s jerseys,  event nametags and buttons –– as long as IZ tags are 100 x 100 pixels of the photo, the snapizzi application can decode it.

Sports and event photographers can now automatically group an 2Dinfinite number of photos of one person by multiple photographers through an event – from marathons to VIP affairs and receptions.  Even with group or team shots, each individual will automatically get a copy of the photo into their private gallery.

Snapizzi’s technology at the 2009 Vision 5K race  automatically captured over one thousand participants in six locations along the route by a team of photographers - and delivered private photo galleries for all attendees automatically.

I think it would be a great idea to incorporate barcode labels in to more everyday life. I think soon they will incorporate it in to our luggage on planes. Just think of the time it would save at the check in desk? Would be none of this hour long queing. Have seen that the iphone has app's that you can download to scan and compare prices of food online, as well as an app that tells you the content of the food. Great start, just hope they keep developing the idea!
