It's contest time! We’re looking for some help renaming our newsletter....

Posted by Yael Brand in Untagged

Play Don Draper for a moment. What do you think about when you think about CYBRA? That they are the leaders in bar code and RFID technology, right? That's how we came up with our Newsletter name, "Between The Lines." But as it turns out great minds think alike, and when GS1, the supply chain global standards organization, and CYBRA started their newsletters in 2005, we both came up with the same name. We think it's time to launch an image reboot, and with that we would like to modify our newsletter name.

We could always consult with our brand manager, but we think you can do better. So do as Draper does, pour yourself an early Scotch, take an afternoon nap, smoke relentlessly and give CYBRA's newsletter a new name — something that says, "CYBRA is the Best In Bar Code and RFID Technology."

By the way, if you have any hesitations about lending out your creativity for free, consider this: we will be giving away a Tassimo Coffee Brewer to the person who comes up with the winning title.

Security Solution for Hotel Staff Who Face Daily Dangers

Posted by Yael Brand in Untagged

Imagine entering dozens of supposedly unoccupied hotel rooms every single day, not knowing what lurks behind the closed door.  Hotel housekeepers face this situation day after day, and many fear for their safety.  Many hotel housekeepers experience sexual harassment on a regular basis on the job, according to housekeepers and labor advocates.  Housekeepers usually work alone and, when they are in guest rooms, they are out of view of security cameras.

Last year Kimberly Phillips, a hotel housekeeper, sued the Kentucky hotel where she worked. When she unlocked the door to the room where she was supposed to tidy up, two dogs tackled her and ripped into her leg.  Argelia Rico, a hotel maid employed in Scottsdale, was sexually harassed by the room’s older male occupant while attempting to turn down his sheets at the hotel where she worked. Recently, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was charged with criminal sexual assault, attempted rape and sexual abuse for his actions against a hotel housekeeper at the luxury Sofitel Hotel in New York.

Alex Woodie of IT Jungle recently wrote a super story about our announcement of our new suite of in-plant printing offerings specifically targeted at apparel manufacturers facing the following government and retailer mandates:

  1. Item-level RFID Tags for EPC (Electronic Product Code) compliance with Walmart, Dillards, JC Penney, and other retailers.
  2. Fabric Care Labels with Batch Numbers for Section 103 of the CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act).
  3. VICS Color-To-Size Tickets for Women's Ready-To-Wear, Men's Sportswear, Footwear and Intimate Apparel manufacturers.

Instead of simply publishing our press release, which you can read here, Alex interviewed myself and Harold Brand, CYBRA CEO, and really wrote a great story. But don't take my word for it. Read it for yourself at: http://www.itjungle.com/fhs/fhs110210-story05.html

I Broke My Netflix Habit for Avatar... in 3D

Winter has been wicked in the Northeast. It seems that every minute I look out window there's white stuff falling, and lots of it. My usual response to lots of snow is to stock up on lots of popcorn and hot chocolate, pop in a DVD, and enjoy what Netflix delivers to my home.  So for my wife (a native Floridian) and I to venture out in the cold slush, we needed a pretty good reason.
